Collenette Jones is a general practice accountancy firm – have a quick look at our website and (we hope) you’ll see that we offer Everything* our clients need, all under one roof. We think that’s what sets us apart from our competitors – we are general practice accountants and tax advisors, and we are just as comfortable helping with book-keeping as we are carrying out an audit or giving advice on a business valuation, sale or purchase. Not only that, but our regulated subsidiary – Crossways Trustees – means that we’re able to form companies and provide corporate services, as well as acting as Trustee of a pension fund (or discretionary trust). It is fair to say our work is varied and no two days are ever the same.
We are a relatively small team – three directors and a consultant (who between them own the business), nine professionally qualified accountants, and a number of other staff with accounting technician and / or book-keeping qualifications, a Trust team of four and of course our invaluable support staff – around 26 people in total. We work hard for our clients but we have a family first mentality and don’t believe in a culture of long hours – we aim to be a business that people are happy to work for, and our staff typically stay with us for many years.
About the Role
This is a new role within our business – you’d be a member of our client facing reception team two full days a week, and the rest of the time would help to run and organise various internal and client service projects, as well as the running of the office in general. This job will be very varied (as are our clients), practical and ‘hands-on’, and as it is a new role will be fairly malleable to the right person!
Two days a week will be spent being front of house, greeting our clients and acting as a conduit between them and your colleagues. But this is by no means a traditional reception role, and indeed our current front of house team do far more than you may envisage a stereotypical receptionist doing. They assist with many other tasks and duties around the office such as co-ordinating clients’ data protection renewals and Annual Validation filings, helping organise team social events.
The other part of the job, and the part that aligns more with the traditional office manager will be managing various internal projects, assisting with completion of various returns and insurance renewals, managing supplies, etc. As our business evolves the tasks you may become responsible for could include assisting with our internal recordkeeping and bookkeeping, or other aspects of running the office which we can’t envisage yet! We’re happy for the role to evolve to fit the skill set of the successful candidate.
We have a flat management structure, with staff reporting to the directors, which can be a refreshing change for those who are used to working in bureaucratic organisations with many layers of management. Remuneration reflects the job that you will do, not the position or title.
About You
Our ideal candidate must be happy to be client facing and to work collaboratively as part of our wider team, managing internal projects and various aspects of a busy office. You will be independent minded, organised, a problem solver and able to prioritise and manage your own workload. We need someone who is adaptable, willing to learn and get involved in whatever tasks need doing to help the smooth running of our business. We have an idea of the work that needs doing, but the position would really suit someone who is willing to help provide solutions, rather than just identifying problems.
You will have a friendly and open disposition and able to get on with everybody. As the role will be both client and internal facing you will need to be comfortable dealing with people from all walks of life.
