We are very proud to have provided the Guernsey Sailing Trust with a new 5.8metre RIB to support the provision of sailing tuition to young people in Guernsey. The aim is to help the charity to support its valuable work providing free sailing lessons to Guernsey schools as well as its wide range of summer courses.

Being part of an island community, we feel it is important that people have an appreciation of the sea and we are fully supportive of the Trust’s work - in making sure anyone, no matter their background, can have the chance to go sailing while they are at school. We hope that the RIB will play its part in developing the next generation of Guernsey’s sailing and boating community. 

The RIB is a 5.8metre Ribquest – given the name ‘Seajay’. It has a Yamaha 100 horsepower four stroke engine and is a very dry, stable boat with fantastic handling and grip thanks to its full length multiple chines. It seats six or seven and can carry up to 12 people or 900kgs of gear.

Sailing Trust Principal Rich Klein said: “A RIB is essential to the operation of the Trust. Our current safety boat is nearing the end of its useful life so the time is definitely right for an upgrade. The new RIB will provide support to all of our activities. It will do safety and guard boat duties, it is a fast response vessel in the event of an emergency and it will provide our students with the opportunity to learn more about powerboating when wind conditions are too light for sailing. We will also be able to use the RIB to offer more powerboat training courses to islanders.”

Guernsey Sailing Trust chair Phil Bodman said: “A RIB such as ‘SeaJay’ will be an important asset the Trust. Our commitment is to ensure all islanders have access to sailing tuition, either free through Guernsey schools or at a reasonable price during our summer season. We run a wide range of RYA accredited courses and we are very grateful to Collenette Jones for their support as, being a charity, the provision of high value assets that make this provision possible is always a challenge.”
