Start your career with Collenette Jones

At Collenette Jones, we’re looking for a Trainee Accountant to join our friendly and supportive team. Whether you’re leaving school, graduating from university or looking for a long-term professional career, this is an opportunity to build valuable skills, gain recognised qualifications and work with experienced professionals who are invested in your success.

About the role

As a Trainee Accountant, you’ll learn accountancy from the ground up within a busy general practice.

Rather than specialising in just one area, you’ll gain experience across many aspects of accountancy, giving you a broad understanding of how businesses operate.

Your work could include:

  • Preparing accounts for businesses across a range of industries
  • Assisting with personal and corporate tax returns
  • Bookkeeping and management accounts
  • Supporting audit assignments
  • Company administration
  • Payroll and business support services

Every day is different, and as your knowledge and confidence grow, you’ll gradually take on greater responsibility and build relationships with your own portfolio of clients.

Unlike many larger firms where trainees can spend years in one specialist department, our size allows you to experience the full range of accountancy services, helping you develop technical expertise alongside valuable commercial awareness.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Curious and eager to learn
  • Organised and reliable
  • A good communicator
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • A logical problem solver
  • Detail-oriented and accurate
  • Positive, motivated and willing to take on new challenges

We’re more interested in your attitude and potential than previous accounting experience.

A good level of numeracy, strong IT skills and an interest in business will help you succeed, but we’ll provide the training and support needed to develop your technical knowledge.

Learn from people who want you to succeed

Nobody begins their career knowing everything. That’s why we’ve created an environment where learning is part of everyday life.

Our experienced accountants and directors work closely with trainees, providing guidance, sharing knowledge and encouraging questions. You’ll receive practical experience alongside structured support as you develop your skills and confidence.

If you choose to study towards a professional qualification, we’ll support you with study leave, practical experience and ongoing encouragement throughout your journey.

Why choose us

When you join us, you’re not just starting a job - you’re beginning a professional career.

You’ll benefit from:

  • A varied and interesting workload from day one
  • Full support towards a professional accounting qualification
  • Mentoring from experienced accountants, managers and directors
  • Exposure to a wide range of industries and businesses
  • A friendly, supportive team where your contribution matters
  • Modern offices designed to support collaboration and learning
  • Excellent long-term career opportunities
